KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 24): Malaysia reported 116 new Covid-19 deaths yesterday (Sept 23), down from 487 logged the day before.

This brought the nation’s total coronavirus-linked fatalities to 24,681, according to the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) COVIDNOW website, citing data from the Covid-19 immunisation Task Force (CITF).

Of the new deaths reported yesterday, 29 were brought-in-dead (BID) cases, raising the country’s cumulative BID tally to 4,838.

“Reporting of deaths is backdated, particularly to include deaths where time is needed to ascertain the cause of death.

“Therefore, trends should be observed from the series based on the date of death (actual deaths),” the MoH said without specifying the actual daily number of Covid-19 related fatalities that occurred yesterday.

The ministry, however, added that the actual daily number of deaths based on the seven-day average stood at 92.

In terms of Covid-19 deaths per 100,000 people, Penang led with 15.6 related fatalities for every 100,000 individuals in the state, followed by Johor (11.6) and Sabah (7.5).

The national average stood at 5.9 deaths for every 100,000 people.

Yesterday, Malaysia reported 13,754 new Covid-19 cases, down from 14,990 for the previous day. This brought the country’s cumulative infections to 2.16 million.
