Penang UMNO chief Musa Sheikh Fadzir is new KTMB non-executive chairman

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 8): Penang UMNO chief Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir has been appointed as the new Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) non-executive chairman effective Monday (Nov 8), succeeding Datuk Dr Rameli Musa, who ended his service on Feb 1 this year.

In a statement on Monday, the national railway company said KTMB's board of directors and leadership team welcome the appointment of Musa, adding that his extensive experience in the corporate sector brings a huge advantage for the company in pursuing KTMB’s transformation agenda to improve further the quality of rail transport services, especially in the post-recovery phase following the challenging Covid-19 pandemic transmission. 

“KTMB expressed its highest appreciation to the former chairman, Datuk Dr Rameli Musa, for his significant contribution in advancing KTMB. [Meanwhile], we are pleased to welcome Datuk Musa as the new [KTMB] chairman of the board of directors 

“With his vast knowledge and experience, this appointment is timely to spearhead the transformation of KTMB, in particular the digitalization and automation agenda of the rail transport services in line with the Industrial Revolution 4.0. 

“We hope his leadership will bring KTMB to a higher level as an operator of rail transport services superior in the region,” said KTMB chief executive officer Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin.

Musa currently is the executive chairman of the Aseania group of companies and according to KTMB, he played an important leading role in the growth and business expansion of the Aseania group of companies within the hospitality and real estate industry. 

He is also the non-executive chairman of JKP Sdn Bhd, i.e. an implementing agency to the Penang Bumiputera Development Council.

Prior to that, he had held various high leadership positions in government agencies such as Lembaga Angkatan Tentera (LTAT) board member, and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) council member.
