PETALING JAYA (June 17): Sime Darby Property Bhd (SDP) announced on Thursday (June 16) the reversion of TPC Kuala Lumpur to its previous name — The Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC). The rebranding ceremony was officiated by the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, at KLGCC on Thursday. Incidentally, the golf and country club, which is owned and managed by SDP, had reverted to its previous name on Nov 1, 2021.

In 2016, SDP struck a five-year brand licensing contract with the United States’ PGA Tour under the Tournament Players’ Club (TPC) network umbrella, which allowed SDP to utilise the TPC brand to host major golf tournaments and elevate the club’s global recognition and standards. The licence expired at the end of 2021.

“In an effort to further enhance KLGCC’s status as one of Malaysia’s premier golf destinations, as well as to create a fresh synergy between the club’s brand identity and the overall KLGCC Resort township development, we took the bold but necessary step last year to rebrand the name of the club from TPC Kuala Lumpur back to its instantly recognisable name — KLGCC,” said SDP's group managing director Datuk Azmir Merican in his welcome speech.

Earlier this year, KLGCC was listed in the prestigious “Top 100 Platinum Golf & Country Clubs of the World 2022 — 2023”, ranking 77th on the list, and is the only golf and country club in Malaysia to receive the recognition. The club was also named in the “Top 50 Platinum Clubs in the Asia Pacific” category, with the five-star platinum club status.

Azmir stressed that with KLGCC at the heart of the KLGCC Resort township, it will offer an exclusive lifestyle that encompasses high-end developments such as East Residence, Senada Residences and Jendela Residences, as well as the Sime Darby Convention Centre, making it a sought-after address in Kuala Lumpur.

“It is our hope that with the launch of the KLGCC brand, this beautiful club that we all cherish will continue to achieve greater success and alleviate its status as one Kuala Lumpur’s most beloved icons,” Azmir concluded.
