• Communications and Multimedia Ministry secretary general Datuk Sri Mohammad Mentek: As such, I encourage more developers to work with telcos to help improve connectivity in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 12): Putrajaya wants to make Internet access as one of the conditions for Planning Permission during the construction of housing projects.

“Currently, Internet access is the third utility for every home. The government has agreed to set Internet connectivity as one of the conditions for the approval of Planning Permission before a housing project starts,” Communications and Multimedia Ministry secretary general Datuk Sri Mohammad Mentek said in a report by The Malaysian Reserve.

“As such, I encourage more developers to work with telcos to help improve connectivity in Malaysia,” he said after a signing ceremony between Tanjung Ratna Sdn Bhd (TRSB) and Maxis Bhd at Putrajaya yesterday.

“Such partnership is a good initiative — I understand that TRSB is the first developer in Malaysia to provide broadband to home buyers,” he added.

According to The Malaysian Reserve, Maxis will lay a dedicated Internet line of 1.5Gbps to connect the Admiral Residences project in Kota Laksamana, Melaka.

TRSB is the developer of Admiral Residences, which has a gross development value of RM530 million and will comprise of four blocks of high rise condominiums housing 1,440 units.

The collaboration with Maxis will allow tenants to enjoy free dedicated 1.5Gbps Internet service for up to five years once they move in. Admiral Residences is set to be the first condominium in the nation to offer such value added privilege to home buyers.
