KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 12): The sales value of Malaysia's wholesale and retail trade grew 41% year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM130.7 billion in July 2022, led by a 613.8% jump in motor vehicles' sales value and as the country's retail trade value rose 37.5% and wholesale trade value grew 20.6%, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) on Monday (Sept 12).

"In terms of volume index, wholesale and retail trade registered a growth of 33.7% y-o-y to record 142.5 points. The increment was supported by the [sales volume] increase of motor vehicles [at] 681.6%, retail trade [at] 31.6%, and wholesale trade [at] 10.8%.

"As for seasonally adjusted volume index, it (wholesale and retail trade volume) went down 1.4% month-on-month in July 2022," the DOSM said in a statement.
