'Pink Panther' theme composer’s Malibu home up for sale at US$11.6 million

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 15): The great composer of themes and songs of classic movies, Henry Mancini, has a house in Malibu’s La Costa Beach listed at US$11.6 million (RM52.3 million).

According to real estate website TopTenRealEstateDeals.com, Mancini purchased the “classic mid-century beach house” in 1972 for US$147,500.

Mancini is known for composing unforgettable tunes for films such as “Moon River”, “Pink Panther Theme”, “Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet” and hundreds of other movies and TV shows. He won four Academy Awards and 20 Grammy Awards for his efforts. Three of his songs were chosen for the American Film Institute’s 100 greatest film scores.

Mancini died in 1994. His daughters Monica and Felice revealed that Mancini held “extraordinary parties with talented friends and musicians” in the beautiful home.

The website reported that the two-storey, wood-sided house has four bedrooms and three baths and covers 2,212 sq ft. The home has big windows that “bathe the space in natural light and crisp geometric lines”.

The living room hosts a marble fireplace and sliding glass doors that open onto a spacious deck and private beach. The main bedroom “upstairs has its own terrace plus vaulted-wood-beamed ceilings and an en-suite bathroom with a marble shower, soaking tub, and a bidet”. Meanwhile, a second top-floor bedroom “also offers ocean views and a deck”. The dining room is linked to “a spacious kitchen with stainless steel appliances, Viking dual ovens, and a breakfast bar”.

The house comes with a two-car garage and “driveway space for two more cars”.
