IJM Land renovates home for underprivileged family

• The one-and-a-half-month renovation work involved painting, fixing and replacing new roofing, providing a well-equipped toilet and installing a septic tank with underground piping, repairing external timber walls and replacing them with cement sand board, installing precast concrete drain and chain link fencing with gate.

SEREMBAN (Nov 25): IJM Land Bhd recently “surprised” an underprivileged family of five here by “fully refurbishing” their home via the developer’s annual Home Rehabilitation programme (myHome).

According to IJM Land, the beneficiary of this effort was 42-year-old single mother, Madam Wan Chew Liean and her four children.

Wan’s husband passed away in 2020 owing to lung and heart failure and she has been trying to make ends meet from her meagre income as a newspaper distributor.

She has received financial assistance from the Social Welfare Department but it was not adequate to repair the poor condition of her home which had been impacted by heavy rains and attack by termites.

“We first met Wan and her beautiful family during IJM Land’s Chinese New Year charity programme in 2021 — that was when we discovered that her house was in dilapidated condition and we needed to do something to ensure she and her family have a secure place to live in that is not only cosy but also fully equipped with the basic necessities,” said Chai Kian Soon, senior general manager of IJM Land, who is leading the myHome programme.

The one-and-a-half-month renovation work involved painting, fixing and replacing new roofing, providing a well-equipped toilet and installing a septic tank with underground piping, repairing external timber walls and replacing them with cement sand board, installing precast concrete drain and chain link fencing with gate.

Upon receiving the certificate of completion for their home during the handover ceremony, IJM Land also provided other essential items including a desktop for kids’ learning, electrical items and some groceries as well as face masks “to lessen their burdens in these challenging times”, stated the developer.

IJM Land also received support for the myHome programme from partners, which included Golden Hover Group of Companies who contributed furniture items worth RM3,500, FWT Construction Sdn Bhd, Jotun Paints (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and Midas Touch PTL.

“Our goal is to identify the crucial ways by which we might open the door to a better life for those who are in difficult situations. We want to make their dreams come true, hence everyone has put their heart into this project to make it a successful one.

“Nevertheless, we are grateful for our partners as their continuous support and contribution have brought positive transitions to many underprivileged families in Seremban,” added Chai.
