MyHSR to freeze land areas to determine best locations for HSR stations in Malaysia

PETALING JAYA (Aug 18): MyHSR Corp Sdn Bhd is currently working with the Malaysian federal and state governments and authorities to determine the best locations for the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) stations.

Towards that end, it will be working with the authorities to freeze land areas under Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act 1960 (LAA), the company said in a statement today.

This follows the conclusion of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Malaysian and Singaporean governments on the HSR project on July 19 this year.

MyHSR Corp chief executive officer Mohd Nur Ismal Mohamed Kamal said, “We want to address growing speculation regarding the locations of the stations. As based on the current progress the alignment and station locations — including the stations’ names — are yet to be finalised, except for the location of HSR Terminus in Bandar Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.

“The process of freezing land areas will allow the project to start technical studies, including assessing soil conditions, the social impact and other technical parameters, before a small corridor is identified.

“The outcome of the studies will be presented through consultations with state authorities as described under Section 20A of the Town and Country Planning Act 1976,” he said.

According to MyHSR Corp, engagements and studies will be conducted to determine the best locations for HSR stations and capture the strategic catchment areas to link with other public transport modes. This will help to create a more integrated and efficient transportation network, it said.

Improving on the accessibility and mobility between the urban and suburban areas and saving on travel time are key factors towards this front, it added.

Mohd Nur Ismal said MyHSR wants to ensure the “game-changing” project truly benefits the country and the people.

MyHSR Corp is the project delivery vehicle for the HSR project. It is responsible for the development and implementation of the project.

The HSR seeks to encourage socio-economic development along the HSR corridor of Malaysia, as it links two urban agglomerations.
