KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 18): The construction sector is targeting to increase the productivity rate of every employee by 2.5 times from US$24,000 (RM101,007) to US$60,000 (RM252,447) by 2020.
"Based on the Statistics Department, the productivity rate recorded for every employee in the construction industry stood at US$24,000 in 2013. This is very low compared to other developed or developing countries," the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) chairman Tan Sri Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali said.
Speaking at the official launching ceremony of the MRT Young Entrepreneurs Programme 2, Safety Supervisor Apprenticeship Programme and CIDB Apprenticeship Programme 2016 in Kuala Lumpur today, Ahmad Tajuddin said the bar has been set higher for all industry players to ensure competitiveness against larger economies globally.
"Our record is much lower when compared to other countries such as the US (US$57,000 or RM239,836), China (US$203,000 or RM854,152) and Australia (US$288,009 or RM1.21 million)," he said. — theedgemarkets.com
