KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 30): Developer S P Setia Bhd has expressed its deepest regret on the pedestrian link bridge collapse tragedy which killed one worker, injured five others while another remains unaccounted for.
The search and rescue operation has been called off today, S P Setia said in a statement today. The five injured workers are in stable condition.
The pedestrian link bridge, which was under construction at its Abdullah Hukum project site near Mid Valley City, gave way around 3.30pm yesterday.
The Fire and Rescue Department announced at 11:30am today that the search for the remaining person has been suspended as the Royal Malaysian Police K9 Unit was unable to detect any further leads.
“We deeply regret the incident and would like to extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured,” said the developer.
The company noted that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the cause of the failure and that the project team will continue to work closely with the relevant authorities.
With the exception of the pedestrian link bridge that gave way, construction work will continue for the rest of the project, it added.
The pedestrian bridge was being built to link the 25-acre KL Eco City development to Mid Valley City.
