Smart Selangor

SUBANG (Dec 6): The Selangor state government hopes to obtain “smart state” status by 2025 according to its Smart Selangor Blueprint launched today at the inaugural Smart City International Conference 2016 in Subang.

According to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, whose speech was read by State Education, Human Capital Development, Science, Technology and Innovation committee chairman Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, the blueprint is a roadmap towards a more sustainable economic growth for Selangor

“This strategic pivot will bring about key transformational outcomes to realise Selangor’s smart state aspirations by 2025 and place Selangor as the premier business, travel and living destination in South East Asia.

“The blueprint is a living implementation framework which will be reviewed periodically to adapt to fast moving smart city dynamics, technologies, and the evolving needs of citizens, businesses and investors,” said Azmin.

Azmin added that 12 smart domains have been selected based on feedback gathered from a five-month engagement process with 10,000 citizens undertaken by the Smart Selangor Delivery Unit, which is also the state government’s Smart Selangor programme manager.

These 12 smart domains are Governance, Waste Management, Digital Infrastructure, Transport and Mobility, Energy, Water, Healthcare, Education, Food and Agriculture, Disaster Management, Building, and Security.

This year, four pilot initiatives were carried out including the Klang river cleaning, Waze Connected Citizen Programme and several transit-oriented development site selections.

For 2017, Selangor has committed RM26 million for at least 10 more new pilot programmes.

“In its net effect, as the nation’s economic powerhouse and the most progressive state in Malaysia, Smart Selangor’s strategic action plans will further enhance Selangor’s economic outlook as a key driver of growth and prosperity as well as address urban challenges leveraging technology as a key enabler,” added Azmin.
