PETALING JAYA (April 2): The first phase of Penduline’s two-storey terraced homes which comprise 246 units has achieved a take-up rate of 90% following its launch last November, said Bandar Rimbayu senior sales manager Susan Teh.

The houses – located in IJM Land Bhd’s Bandar Rimbayu near Kota Kemuning in Telok Panglima Garang, Klang – have built-ups of between 1,751 sq ft and 2,021 sq ft and land area of 20t by 70ft, and are priced from RM625,000, or RM356 psf.

Meanwhile, the second phase of Penduline will comprise 379 units. IJM Land will be launching the first batch of homes under the second phase (224 units) this year.

“The launch will be in 2Q2016, with prices for the houses starting from RM699,800. The second phase is open for registration now,” said Teh.

The 54.95-acre Penduline will have a total 625 units of two-storey terraced houses upon completion.

The scheme’s show units served as the tableau for the inaugural IJM Land Designer Awards (ILDA), which aims to give aspiring young interior design graduates an opportunity to showcase their talent in a competitive environment and learn from an experienced jury about matters most in designing a home’s interior.

The final judging of ILDA was concluded on March 22 and two finalists -- Leo Wong Kwan Theng and Goh Sow Yee -- were picked for their interior design proposals.

Themed “Reliving Nostalgic Memories”, contestants had to work within a budget of RM150,000 to produce their interior designs.

“The designs have to be a reflection of the target market and the things our customers like,” explained the chief judge and director of Sante Fe Interior Architecture, Fendarie Su.

“Based on the value of the house, we can engage the types of potential buyers and what they look for in their properties,” said Su.

“We had to explain to them that the design had to suit the target market and design concepts that were too over the top could not be used,” said Lim Ai Tiong, design principal architect & chief designer, who was also part of the jury.

While Goh’s outstanding design was a clean and simple look based on a rural, yet classy concept, Wong’s work was inspired by the concept of traditional Malay batik

“I wanted to show the audience how this part of the Malay culture could be implemented into interior design and create a feeling of nostalgia through historical art,” said Wong.

Now, both finalists must bring their creations to life in the Penduline show units. The show units will be opened to the public who will then vote for their favourite design on site, directly influencing the outcome of the contest.

The Gold winner of this competition will receive a cash prize of RM18,000 and a Mac Book Pro, while the Silver winner will receive a cash prize of RM12,000 and an iPhone 6.

Tentatively, the show units will open for two weekends in May. Until then, take a look at their designs below.
