PETALING JAYA (Oct 26): Construction firm Bina Puri Holdings Bhd has received a letter of intent from PR1MA Corporation Malaysia (PR1MA) for the construction of 994 apartment units and 20 shops in Johor Bahru.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Bina Puri said the project will be built on 18.23 acres of freehold land at Mukim Plentong in Masai. It will comprise four blocks of apartments, of which three will be 18 storeys high with 252 each, and the last, 17 storeys with 238 units.

The built-up area of the apartment units is between 950 and 1,100 sq ft, while the shops units are 1,630 sq ft each.

With an estimated contract sum of RM230 million, the project is scheduled for completion in 36 months.

Bina Puri group executive director Matthew Tee said the group looks forward to securing the project soon.

“In line with the recent budget, with construction being one of the major beneficiaries with a targeted growth in excess of 8%, the group is confident [it] will be one of the major players especially, with our presence in Sabah, Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur and Johor, the four main growth cities identified in the 11MP (11th Malaysia Plan),” he said.

Bina Puri Holdings Bhd is no stranger to the Johor Bahru market. Last week, it secured a contract to build two main control buildings and four laboratory buildings for the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC) in Pengerang, for RM234.12 million. The project will be completed in 30 months.

In 2011, it completed two projects in Johor: the RM300 million Polis DiRaja Malaysia’s Batalion 6 camp complex in Muar, and the RM293 million Eastern Dispersal Link in Johor Bahru.

It also has two projects in Johor with a combined gross development value of RM314 million, including the RM204 million Lakehill Resort in Masai and the RM110 million Petrie Villa four-storey linkhouses in Johor Bahru.

Its other ongoing projects in Johor are the RM195 million Medini office tower in Iskandar Malaysia and the RM94.49 million civil works for a Steam Cracker Complex within the site of Petronas’ Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (Rapid) Project in Pengerang.
