Azmin AliSHAH ALAM (Nov 4): The design for the new alignment to the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH) in Damansara Perdana near here is still at discussion stage, the Selangor State Assembly was told yesterday.

Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali (pictured) said the concessionaire, Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (Prolintas), had submitted the new design for the final alignment to the expressway following protest on the original alignment by the residents.

"Following the protest from the residents in Damansara Perdana, I have, on March 19, brought the matter to the attention of the Works Ministry and Prolintas so that they can relook into it and take into consideration the residents' opinion.

"So, right now, the discussion about the design of the new alignment is still ongoing (between Prolintas and the residents) to find the best solution," he said in reply to Shahrum Mohd Sharif (BN-Dengkil) during question time yesterday.

Shahrum had wanted to know the state government's decision and feedback concerning the expressway project.

Mohamed Azmin said public briefing and exhibition carried out in February 2012 showed that 98% of the residents around the proposed alignment to DASH had accepted the construction of the expressway, while the remaining 2% opposed.

The menteri besar, however, repeated his opinion that the construction of expressways in the Klang Valley was not the total and best solution for proper traffic dispersal.

As such, he said the state government would continue giving emphasis on the efforts to empower the development of integrated public transportation infrastructure by making optimal use of land in a bid to overcome traffic congestion in the future.

The RM4.5 billion elevated expressway project was one of the projects announced in the 2015 Budget by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The three-lane expressway begins from the intersection in Puncak Perdana, Shah Alam and connects Alam Suria, Denai Alam, Jalan Sungai Buloh, Kota Damansara and Mutiara Damansara and ends at Penchala intersection.
