PETALING JAYA (May 16): The East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) aims to build a heritage waterfront city in the Kuala Terengganu City Centre (KTCC), a new hub which spans Kuala Terengganu and its nearby districts.

KTCC is designed to transform Kuala Terengganu and the nearby districts in the state into a hub of living, working and recreation, as well as the east coast’s gateway for tourists and investors in the tourism, marine and fisheries sectors.

The council is also implementing Malaysia’s first Akuapolitan project in Kuala Nerus to create an integrated and sustainable marine fishing zone.

“For KTCC, we are building a Heritage Waterfront City to attract more investments into the state capital while Akuapolitan aims to eradicate poverty amongst the local fishing community by providing the participants and their family members the required infrastructure and skills to improve their overall livelihood,” said ECERDC chief executive officer Datuk Seri Jebasingam Issace John after the ECER Implementation and Coordination (ICC) Terengganu meeting.

On the KTCC front, infrastructure works for Muara North (Muara Utara), the new gateway to KTCC is expected to be completed by mid-May 2016 and establish a variety of development components in Kuala Terengganu, covering tourism, commerce, business, education and entertainment.
