Battersea, art'otel, Sime Darby, S P Setia

LONDON (Oct 20): Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC) and art’otel have confirmed the signing of a hotel management agreement for the art’otel london battersea power station, which is scheduled to open in 2019 in the heart of London.

The hotel, part of the £80 bil Battersea Power Station development, will be developed by BPSDC and managed by the owner of the art’otel brand, PPHE Hotel Group. The building will be designed by Foster + Partners and set around the historic Grade II-listed Battersea Power Station.

“We are incredibly excited to be announcing this important transaction and for it to be with such an innovative hotel company,” BPSDC CEO Rob Tincknell said in a statement. “I am confident that together with art’otel we will deliver a beyond expectations hotel.”



The 160-room hotel is set on a 42-acre site which hosts also a community of homes, cafes, offices and 18 acres of public space.

The Battersea Power Station development will transform London’s skyline,” PPHE Hotel Group president and CEO Boris Ivesha said. “art’otel perfectly complements the shareholders of Battersea Power Station’s vision and we look forward to working together to create a new chapter in London’s history over the next four years.”

art’otel describes itself as "a contemporary collection of hotels located in cosmopolitan centres across Europe that fuse exceptional architectural style with art-inspired interiors." It works with artists "to redefine the traditional hotel experience by allowing guests to live within the creative process, surrounded by captivating art." The signature art’otel artist is yet to be revealed but is likely to be an acclaimed local or national artist.

The hotel will boost an assortment of facilities such as a Roof Garden designed by the New York High Line team, James Corner Field Operations, an outdoor rooftop pool, a public gallery for art and cultural events, a lounge and a cafe. Overlooking paranomic views and the Battersea power station, the hotel’s design style will be inspired by art’otel amsterdam, fusing innovative design with urban art created and curated by Atelier van Lieshout.

Meanwhile, Battersea Power Station will be completed in seven phases by 2025, and is intended to attract a genuine mix of exciting global businesses as well as local ones to occupy shops, offices and restaurants.

The Battersea Power Station site is owned by a body of Malaysian investors including S P Setia, Sime Darby and the Employees Provident Fund, while the development management is undertaken by the British-based BPSDC. art’otel is fully owned by PPHE Hotel Group, whose portfolio extends to 38 hotels with more than 8,300 rooms.
