PETALING JAYA (April 19): The first show apartments by internationally-renowned architectural firm Gehry Partners is opening at the iconic Battersea Power Station rejuvenation project.

The firm had designed Prospect Place at Battersea, which includes 690 apartment units. Prices start from £1.3 million (approximately RM7.29 million) for a 2-bedroom apartment with a built-up of 748 sq ft to 1,417 sq ft.

Battersea Power Station Development Co Ltd (BPSDC) chief executive officer Rob Tincknell said in a statement that the first show units, which were created by Gehry Partners, have opened today at Battersea Power Station.

“This show apartments will offer a first glimpse into the world of Gehry here at Battersea Power Station. Everyone involved is delighted to be able to show people the extraordinary craftsmanship and design from this exemplary architectural team,” he added.

According to the statement, Gehry Partners’ design at Battersea Power Station will comprise a cluster of five buildings, each with striking sculptural façades inspired by London’s famous John Regency terraces, and the distinctive “Flower” building.

There is a beautiful private garden for residents between the five buildings.

Each building will have its front door both at street level and at garden level via The Flower building, which will have a spectacular central entrance lobby.

He noted that Gehry Partners has designed two palettes for the interiors at Prospect Place – LA and London. These two designs can be viewed through its show apartments, which open from Monday to Saturday and by appointment only.

“Visitors to the show apartments will be able to experience the project’s winter gardens, which offer versatile living throughout the year and maximise the light and views across the site,” he said.

The Battersea Power Station project is owned by a consortium of Malaysian investors comprising S P Setia Bhd (40%), Sime Darby Bhd (40%) and the Employees Provident Fund (20%).

The overall project is divided into seven phases, with each designed by a range of specialist architects. These include SimpsonHaugh and Partners and De Rijke Marsh Morgan (dRMM) in Circus West (Phase 1), Wilkinson Eyre Architects in The Power Station (Phase 2), and Foster + Partners and Gehry Partners in The Electric Boulevard, Battersea Roof Gardens and Prospect Place (Phase 3).

Construction work officially began with Phase 1 on July 4, 2013, and the overall development is anticipated to be completed in 2025.

Meanwhile, the Power Station itself is expected to be open to the public for the first time in over 30 years in 2019.
