SHAH ALAM (April 5): The four-star DoubleTree by Hilton i-City Hotel, the second hotel in I-Bhd’s flagship i-City mixed development here, is scheduled to be completed and open for business in 2018.

I-Bhd deputy chairman Datuk Eu Hong Chew said the new hotel project is in line with its plan to turn i-City into a regional tourism destination.

“The presence of a renowned hotel chain will surely boost the development of our theme park and other attractions,” said Eu in his welcoming address at the ground breaking ceremony today.

He also said the upscale hotel is one of the components of the Central Tower development, which also comprises a convention centre, shopping mall and residences.

“DoubleTree by Hilton i-City Hotel has a gross development value (GDV) of RM200 million, while the overall Central Tower development has a GDV of RM13 billion,” Eu noted.

There will be 300 rooms spread across the 43-storey building. The hotel will occupy the bottom half of the building while the top half will be made up of serviced residences.

However, I-Bhd declined to reveal the details of the serviced residences, only noting that both will be fully fitted to Hilton standards.

Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, who officiated the ground breaking ceremony today, described the latest development of i-City as a landmark not only for Selangor but also for the tourism industry in general.

“Our role is to develop and implement policies that will make Malaysia a more tourist-friendly destination. Malaysia has set a 36 million target in terms of tourist count to the country by 2020,” Nazri remarked.

Aside from DoubleTree by Hilton i-City, I-Bhd’s other Tourism Destination milestones for 2016 also include the completion of 6,500 car parks and the entry statement for the City of Digital Lights as well as the launch of its 8Kia Peng (also known as King of the Hill) project in the vicinity of Kuala Lumpur City Centre which is a single 50-storey tower on a freehold land with a GDV of RM829 million.
