• Camden boasts a world famous market and a local music scene that has hosted the likes of Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and the Doors. The borough trades on its edgy reputation from the Swinging Sixties, but as its residents have grown more affluent, more cafés, restaurants and big brands have started to arrive.
  • Camden is very affluent: Its residents earn the fifth-highest salaries in London at £53,794, are the capital’s fourth-oldest with an average age of 35.8.
  • It has fourth-highest average house price in London at £812,868 (RM4.77 million) and the sixth-highest growth in Inner London over the last decade at 121%.
  • Average rents are currently at £2,537, the fourth-highest in London. Its proportion of the Private Rental Sector in Inner London is fifth-highest in the capital.
  • However, many parts of Camden are less affluent and in need of significant regeneration. In particular, King’s Cross is expected to have smart, modern homes for owners and renters, better open spaces, a new play area for children, a café, retail space and low-cost employment space, a new library and better public transport. Owners of surrounding properties in the local area are expected to benefit from rising prices.
  • The new Tottenham Court Road Crossrail station in Camden in 2018 will be able to accommodate 70 million passengers a year, on par with Oxford Circus and is also expected to increase property prices. The £1 billion investment is said to be the most extensive over-site development on the Crossrail network.
  • There is also the conversion of the landmark Centre Point by Almacantar, touted as the jewel in the crown of a new St Giles Circus, linking the West End to Covent Garden. These renewal plans have boosted the local property market, across all sectors.
