Mitsui Outlet Park KLIA Sepang property

SEPANG (July 29): MFMA Development Sdn Bhd, the joint-venture company between Mitsui Fudosan Co Ltd and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd saw its Mitsui Outlet Park KLIA Sepang, the largest outlet park in Southeast Asia, officially launched by the prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today.

Najib believes the opening of Mitsui Outlet Park is timely as the surrounding areas have been experiencing good growth in recent years. "Its opening will help cater to the needs resulting from this rapid development. It is also strategically positioned to take advantage of Malaysia's increasing tourist arrivals," he noted.

Mitsui Outlet Park opened its doors on May 30. The development has approximately 24,000 sq ft of retail space housing 127 brands such as Topshop, Superdry, Levi's, Adidas and Isetan Outlet Store.

"The outlet park investment is RM335 million for the three phases of development. The second and third phases are expected to be completed by 2018 and 2021, respectively. Upon completion, retail space will be expanded up to 44,000 sq ft and 250 shops," said MFMA Development managing director Takehito Fukui.

The "paradise village" design concept has four nature inspired zones -- Sunshine Square, Pier walk, Tropical Plaza and Beach Walk.

The outlet mall also boasts a first-of-kind Flight Check-in Centre with flight information and check-in system. The centre also provides free baggage storage and shuttle bus services to and from KLIA and KLIA2.

"We are certain that not only will this vision benefit the group but our nation in general. The development of KLIA Aeropolis will spur an increase in empowerment opportunities, thus stimulating the local economy," said Malaysia Airport chairman Tan Sri Wan Abdul Aziz, adding that he expected KLIA Aeropolis to provide over 1,800 employment opportunities by the end of the year.
