KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 4): Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has appointed Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd (MRCB) and George Kent (M) Bhd as the project delivery partner (PDP) for the RM9 billion Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) project.

"The Ministry of Finance has given approval for the appointment of the joint venture (JV) between MRCB and George Kent as the PDP for LRT3," Prasarana chairman Tan Sri Ismail Adam told a news conference today.

It was reported that six JVs and individual companies were in the running for the rail project. They were the JV between Gamuda Bhd and MMC Corp Bhd, the MRCB-George Kent JV, UEM Group Bhd, Naza Group of Companies and China-based partner CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co Ltd, Sunway Bhd, as well as WCT Bhd and AlloyMtd group.

Construction work on the 36km LRT3 or Bandar Utama-Klang line will begin in 2016 and is expected to be completed in 2020.

Prasarana had organised public inspection on the LRT3 alignment on May 15.
