Negri Sembilan makes it easy to revive abandoned projects

SEREMBAN (June 17): The Negri Sembilan state government is ready to facilitate the process of reviving abandoned projects that cause an eyesore in the state, particularly in Seremban.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the state government would assist those who were interested in reviving such projects and waived any conditions that might pose a hindrance.

“If any party comes forward to give new meaning to an abandoned project, we will not impose new conditions,” he told reporters in Seremban today.

Mohamad pointed out an example of a new mall (Palm Mall) opposite Kemayan Square which was earlier an abandoned building.

“What is important is that the state government wants to help revive such projects and not let it become an eyesore,” he said.

He added that another abandoned building near the mall had been bought recently.

“It was initially supposed to be a hotel, but a research done by the party involved showed that it was not viable to have another hotel in the area.

“They have now decided to use the building for a service apartment,” he said.

In this situation, he explained that the state government would waive certain requirements needed for a service apartment.

“A service apartment will require a park and other facilities to get the approval, but they do not have the land for that.

“In this case, we will waive the requirement, so as not to leave the building abandoned,” he added.

Mohamad stressed that the state government was not rigid and would make it easy for abandoned projects to be revived.
