Datuk Azmi Abdul Aziz MRTKUALA LUMPUR (Oct 27): Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) signed a memorandum of understanding with MRT Jakarta on a rail collaboration at the Indonesian capital yesterday. Prasarana was represented by its president and group CEO Datuk Azmi Abdul Aziz (pictured) at the ceremony while MRT Jakarta was represented by president director of PT MRT Jakarta Dono Boestami.

The MoU would see Prasarana and MRT Jakarta collaborate in various areas relating to rail and metro operations in Jakarta.

Both parties would explore the possibility of exchanges in technical and operational information, expertise, and know-how to enhance and develop their mutual capabilities, according to Prasarana in a statement issued today.

MRT Jakarta will operate in two corridors – the South to North Corridor, and the East to West Corridor – and will have a total length of 25km and 21 stations. Phase 1 of the South to North Corridor is scheduled to be completed in 2018, while Phase 2 will be completed in 2020.

The East to West Corridor will have a total length of 87km and 48 stations, and is scheduled to commence operations in 2024.

Prasarana, which would be operating Malaysia’s first MRT line between Sungai Buloh and Kajang in 2017, is Malaysia’s largest asset owner for land transport and, under the collaboration, it will share its experience in the planning and operations of urban rail lines with the Indonesian operator.

Local government-owned company MRT Jakarta was established to develop, procure and operate rail-based public transport services such as the mass rapid transit systems and the light rail transit systems in Jakarta Province.
