The naming a development or an area is an important part of building a brand. The right name for a project or an area could add to its prestige by creating the right associations in the minds of prospective buyers, leading to its property values trending upwards.

For instance, the locality in Sungai Buloh that was eventually developed and renamed as Kota Damansara raised its profile and hence the value of property there over the years.

Today, the number of developments being linked them with prominent addresses is increasing. (This is one reason why there are so many areas called “Damansara” and “Kiara”, for example.) In this article, we look at several such developments in the Klang Valley.

Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur

Bangsar South

Some people might mistake Bangsar South as the name of an area, but it is the name of an integrated property development project on the land once known as Kampung Kerinchi (Kerinchi Village). Built by UOA Development Bhd since 2005, the 60-acre project now consists of modern office towers, mid to high-end, high-rise residences and retail spaces.

Today, many people generally see Bangsar South as including surrounding developments such as Suez Capital’s KL Gateway and the upcoming Novum by Eupe Corporation.

KL East

KL East

Similar to Bangsar South, “KL East” is a development rather than an area. Developed by Sime Darby Property Bhd, it is an integrated township near the once-verdant Taman Melawati (originally developed by the Daim Zainuddin-linked Negara Properties), where Sime is building a mall. KL East spans over 153 acres, of which 53 acres is rainforest dedicated to what is being called KL East Eco Park and Forest Reserve. KL East has direct access to the Middle Ring Road 2. Under ideal traffic conditions, it is a 15-minute drive from KL City Centre and a 10-minute walk to the Gombak Transport Terminal.

KL South

KL South

KL South is a rather confusing name without official sanction, but some latest developments in the southern part of Kuala Lumpur include “KL South” as part of their name. Projects with the KL South tag are scattered across a wide area.

They include Verve Suites KL South in Old Klang Road by Bukit Kiara Properties Sdn Bhd; Southville City @ KL South township in Bandar Baru Lembah Selatan by Mah Sing Group; and, Trinity Aquata KL South in Seri Kembangan by Trinity Group.

KL North, Lakepark Residence

KL North

One of the projects here is Lakepark Residence @ KL North developed by JL99 Development Sdn Bhd. Directly fronting Jalan Kuching, this project is located by a 23-acre lake in the Selayang area. Using the lake as a feature, the development will offer Garden by the Lake – a private section reserved exclusively for residents. Lakepark Residence @ KL North is connected to various highways, and is claimed to be a 20-minute drive from KLCC.

North Kiara
North Kiara

North Kiara is no stranger to many Klang Valley residents. Like KL South, North Kiara is also a name without official sanction. It covers parts of Segambut, Dutamas and Kepong. Developers use this term to highlight the proximity of their projects to their high-end neighbour Mont’Kiara. One North Kiara’s landmarks is Lycee Francais de Kuala Lumpur, more commonly known as the French School of Kuala Lumpur.

Among the first developments branded as North Kiara include Verdana @ North Kiara by BRDB Developments Sdn Bhd; BCB Bhd’s Concerto North Kiara; Scenaria @ North Kiara Hills by UOA Development; and Anjali North Kiara from Angsana Setia Sdn Bhd.
