KUALA LUMPUR (May 12): Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has awarded four work package contracts for the construction of the MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) line (MRT2), with a combined value of RM4.2 billion.

In a statement today, MRT Corp said the contracts include two viaduct work packages and two systems work packages.

MRT Corp chief executive officer Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar said the project can now move full steam ahead following the award of the works.

"Earlier, we saw many of our civil works being awarded. We have now moved to the stage where we are awarding systems work packages. This is very good progress for the SSP line," he said in a statement.

The largest package, the systems work package SY203 for the engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of electric trains and depot equipment was awarded to HAP Consortium, comprising Apex Communications Sdn Bhd and Korea's Hyundai Rotem Co and Posco Engineering Co Ltd. The contract is worth RM1.62 billion.

The second package, package SY201, was awarded to a consortium comprising Bombardier (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and Global Rail Sdn Bhd, valued at RM458.02 million. The contract entails the engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of the signalling and train control system for the SSP line.

Meanwhile, work package V203, worth RM1.47 billion, was awarded to IJM Construction Sdn Bhd. The works comprise the construction and completion of the 4.6km viaduct guideway and other associated works from Jinjang to Jalan Ipoh North Portal.

The fourth package, work package V210, was awarded to the Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd (MRCB) for a contract price of RM648 million.

The works consist of the construction and completion of the 2.6km viaduct guideway and other associated works from Persiaran APEC in Cyberjaya to Putrajaya Sentral.

"I am pleased to share that the successful tenderers for the electric trains, viaduct V203 and viaduct V210 had also submitted the lowest prices for their respective tenders.

"MRT Corp looks forward to working with them and I am confident they will all perform as well as contractors of this important infrastructure project," said Shahril. – theedgemarkets.com
