ALOR SETAR (Aug 26): The Aman Central shopping mall, with a gross development value of RM500 million, is set to open its doors on Oct 1.

Belleview Group managing director Datuk Sonny Ho said the shopping mall was expected to attract customers from Kedah, Perlis and southern Thailand.

Ho said he was confident that the mall, located directly opposite the iconic Alor Setar Tower, would be the desired retail, dining and entertainment destination for northern Malaysians and southern Thais.

"We are doing a lot of pre-opening promotions in southern Thailand to make sure that Aman Central Mall and Alor Setar Tower become major tourist attractions in Kedah.

"We have held discussions with the state government on efforts to bring buses from southern Thailand to visit Kedah and Aman Central," he told reporters during a site visit of the mall.

Aman Central will also house many 'first in Kedah' brands such as H&M, Uniqlo, Guess, Padini, Starbucks, Pandora, Baskin Robbins and many more, without forgetting the local traders, he said.

"The main attraction will be Aman Walk, an alfresco area designed with two levels of outside seating areas to take advantage of the beautiful and spectacular view of the Alor Setar Tower," he said.

The mall, he said, would also have a special zone called the mini shop to house 60 local traders, which is fully-booked.
