Sunway is No 1 again in Top Property Developers’ Awards 2015

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 30): Sunway Bhd takes the top spot and the Best in Qualitative Attributes sub award for the second year running in The Edge Malaysia Top Property Developers’ Awards (TPDA) 2015.

"We are very honoured to be recognised yet again and we thank all our stakeholders and customers who believe in us. We will continue to deliver quality products," said Sunway managing director of property division for Malaysia and Singapore Sarena Cheah.

Making its return to the Top 10 this year is IJM Land Bhd (No 2), a huge jump from its 14th spot last year. The developer took the 10th place in 2012.

Meanwhile, UOA Development Bhd (No 6) is back in the Top 10 list this year.

UOA Development is no stranger to the awards -- they were ranked 11th last year and 7th in 2013.

UOA Development also took home the inaugural The Edge Malaysia Notable Achievement Award in 2012 for its solid track record and flagship Bangsar South integrated development.

The TPDA anchors The Edge Malaysia Property Excellence Awards, which in recent years has expanded to include other sub awards such as The Edge-PEPS Value Creation Excellence Award, The Edge-PAM Green Excellence Award, The Edge Malaysia Affordable Urban Housing Excellence Award and The Edge Malaysia Notable Property Achievement Award.

This year, new categories were added while old awards were revamped.

New additions are The Edge Malaysia Lifetime Property Achievement Award and The Edge Malaysia Outstanding Property CEO Award.
Meanwhile, other sub-awards that were renamed are The Edge Malaysia Outstanding Property Entrepreneur Awards (formerly The Edge Outstanding Property Personality Award) and The Edge Malaysia Property Development Excellence Award (formerly The Edge Malaysia Outstanding Property Award).

The rest of the Top 10 are Sime Darby Property Bhd (No 3), S P Setia Bhd (No 4), Mah Sing Group Bhd (No 5), UEM Sunrise Bhd (No 7), IOI Properties Group Bhd (No 8), IGB Corp Bhd (No 9), and Gamuda Bhd – Property Division (No 10).

“While the awards have evolved, what has remained consistent is their credibility and integrity as the methodology and judging process are transparent and the results for the Top Property Developers Award are audited by an external auditor,” The Edge Media Group publisher and group CEO Ho Kay Tat said in his speech.

‘Condo King’ Datuk Alan Tong Kok Mau, the founder of Sunrise Bhd and current chairman of Bukit Kiara Holdings Sdn Bhd, is the proud recipient of the inaugural The Edge Malaysia Lifetime Property Achievement Award.

The spry octogenarian is highly revered in real estate circles for his integrity, and foresight and gumption in transforming a rubber estate in Segambut into Mont’Kiara, an international high-rise enclave.

"I am quite speechless. This award was completely unexpected," a beaming Tong told theedgeproperty.com.

He attributed his success to the integrity instilled in him by his father.

"Be someone people are proud to say they work with," he added.

Two tycoons took home The Edge Malaysia Outstanding Property Entrepreneur Awards, which honours industry captains who have made significant and outstanding contributions in growing their companies into a dynamic player at the forefront of the industry.

They are Mah Sing group managing director Tan Sri Leong Hoy Kum and Tropicana Corp Bhd’s Tan Sri Danny Tan.

Meanwhile, Sime Darby Property Bhd managing director Tan Sri Abd Wahab Maskan and Eco World Development Group Bhd’s president and CEO Datuk Chang Khim Wah were both accorded The Edge Malaysia Outstanding Property CEO Award.

The award recognises CEOs and professionals whose leadership has taken their companies to extraordinary heights.

Gamuda Bhd’s Kota Kemuning and Perdana ParkCity Sdn Bhd’s Desa ParkCity won The Edge Malaysia Property Development Excellence Award in recognition of the projects’ positive contribution to the vibrancy of their vicinity.

IJM Land, S P Setia and Mulpha International Bhd took home The Edge Malaysia Notable Property Achievement Award for The Light Waterfront in Penang, Setia Eco Park in Selangor and Leisure Farm in Johor, respectively.

The Edge-PAM Green Excellence Award was jointly created with the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) to recognise projects that demonstrate sustainable design innovation while contributing positively to the community.

This year’s winner is S P Setia’s corporate headquarters at Setia Alam.

The Edge-PEPS Value Creation Excellence Award was started in partnership by The Edge and the Association of Valuers, Property Managers, Estate Agents and Property Consultants in the Private Sector (PEPS).

The award recognises developments that have provided outstanding rewards to their purchasers in terms of capital appreciation.

This year’s winner in the residential category is Gamuda Bhd’s Phase 15 of Ambang Botanic, at Bandar Botanic, Klang. Meanwhile, the merit award went to The Z Residence by Trinity Group Bhd.

The winner of the non-residential category is TA Global Bhd’s Ativo Plaza at Bandar Sri Damansara, Kuala Lumpur.

To round up the awards is The Edge Malaysia Affordable Urban Housing Excellence Award, which honours affordable housing projects for the urban middle-income group undertaken wholly by Malaysian private developers.

The winners this year are MKH Bhd for Pines @ Hillpark Shah Alam North and Sime Darby Property for Saron in Banar Bukit Raja. MKH Bhd was also the winner in the same category last year for Pelangi Semenyih 2 Phase 2A in Semenyih, Selangor.
