Overview

Senggarang is a small town in the district of Batu Pahat in the state of Johor. This town is located approximately 20 kilometres away from the town of Bandar Penggaram, the capital of the Batu Pahat district.

According to the locals, the Senggarang town was named after a crocodile which used to inhabit the Senggarang river. This crocodile was known as ‘Sang Garang’, which means ‘Fierce’ in Bahasa Malaysia. It is said that this crocodile is still alive till today, however this cannot be corroborated.

The flood control gate across Senggarang river is the largest in West Johor. This stop gate is used to control the water flow of the Senggarang river, which flows through the town into the Straits of Malacca.
