Established in 1952, Salak Selatan, also popularly known as Salak South, is situated at the southern part of Kuala Lumpur. Initially comprising only two rows of shop houses, Salak Selatan has since blossomed into a matured community with about 10,000 villagers who mostly live in village houses and landed residential properties.
As one of the earliest developments in the southern part of KL city, Salak Selatan has been a popular hub for small industrial factories in the shoe, furniture and steel sectors in the 1970s. However, most of the businesses moved out during the 1980s, spurred by the government’s efforts to develop the township. Since then, the significant development of Salak Selatan has led to the addition of a new satellite town, named the New Salak South Village (Kampung Baru Salak Selatan).
Newer developments to emerge in Salak Selatan is Salak South Garden, a freehold residential township situated adjacent to Sungai Besi and Kuchai Avenue. Comprising bungalow units, semi-detached houses, apartments and commercial shop lots, Salak South Garden is a self-sufficient neighbourhood with the advantage of being close to a variety of amenities and facilities.
Despite its central location just 8 km from KL city centre, Salak Selatan is in fact rather secluded from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. In recent years, Salak Selatan has been increasingly gaining traction as a property growth area in the south of KL due to its proximity to the city centre in addition to the spill over effect from neighbouring townships, such as Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Sungai Besi, Chan Sow Lin, Desa Petaling, Kuchai Lama, Sri Petaling and Taman Danau Desa.
Amenities and Facilities
Within the Salak Selatan township is a variety of restaurants and eateries, mini markets, salons, cafes, banks and clinics. The community hall of Salak South New Village also holds a badminton court, basketball court and playground. Schools available within Salak South include SRK Salak South and SJK (C) Salak South, but residents can easily access various schools in neighbouring townships within a short drive away. Salak South Garden’s close proximity to matured townships also makes it convenient for residents to get to various amenities, such as NSK Supermarket and Endah Parade Shopping Centre, besides a host of daily supply and commercial needs.
Accessibility and Transportation
The central location of Salak Selatan and Salak South Garden makes accessibility a breeze to a wide selection of roads and expressways, including Jalan Sungai Besi, East-West Link Expressway (also known as Salak Expressway), SMART Tunnel, Federal Highway, Maju Expressway (MEX), Besraya Highway, Eastern Extension Expressway, New Pantai Expressway and Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2).
Salak Selatan is in close proximity to the integrated transportation hub at the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan, where KL’s main long distance bus terminal and Bandar Tasik Selatan rail interchange station are located, along with the LRT station and KTM Komuter station.
