Overview
Jelebu is the second largest district in Negeri Sembilan of Peninsular Malaysia. It forms borders with Selangor and Pahang. The principal town is Kuala Klawang. Other towns in Jelebu include Titi, Simpang Durian, Sungai Muntoh and Simpang Pertang. Advanced drug abuse rehabilitation centers such as Jelebu Narcotic Rehabilitation Center and Cure & Care Rehabilitation Center (CCRC) are located here. Invasion of Jelebu by Japanese during World War II is specially recorded in history for the infamous massacre and genocide of thousands of locals resulting in very high death tolls.
Places of Attraction
It is a relatively unspoilt charming place surrounded by mist-covered hills and forest reserves stretching for miles and miles as you drive in to Jelebu. Traditional houses built on stilts and Minangkabau influenced curved roof architecture can still be seen. Agricultural activities such as rubber cultivation, vegetable and fruit farming, sugar cane fields and paddy fields are the primary economic activities in Jelebu. Sugarcane and pineapples grown locally are popular throughout the country for its high quality.
A large portion of Jelebu is comprised of expansive rainforests, namely, Hutan Simpan Triang and Hutan Simpan Kenaboi which are home to a wide range of flora and fauna that include several endangered species. Hutan Lipur Jeram Toi, nature preserve, lies towards the southern edge of Jelebu.
Muzium Adat (translates as Museum Customs) in Kuala Klawang is a 4-storey museum displaying the traditions and customs practiced by Malaysians before and today. It focuses mainly on Malay traditions. The customs are depicted through paintings, figurines displaying scenes, photographs and various artifacts. Titi Eco Farm, Malaysia's first solar-powered organic farm with fruit orchards, herb garden, vegetable garden, poultry and a resort is the ideal place to retreat to for some quiet time amidst nature. Awanmulan resort in Kampung Jelebu is nestled deep in the bosom of a forest and has been constructed complementary with nature with stupendous views. It provides the perfect getaway destination for a tranquil retreat away from the bustle of city life.
Not far from Kuala Klawang is the Jeram Toi Waterfall, a great picnic spot equipped with facilities such as benches, resting huts and toilets. The three-day annual Kenaboi International River Challenge takes place over a large stretch of Sungai Kenaboi for kayak enthusiasts and includes white water rafting.
Accessibility and Transportation
Jelebu can be accessed via Federal Route 9 from Pahang and via Federal Route 86 from Seremban. Kuala Klawang is about one and a half hours from Kuala Lumpur and can be accessed via either LEKAS or Lebuhraya Utara-Selatan both of which connect to Route 86.
