Overview

Ampang Jaya, more commonly known as Ampang, was one of the earliest areas in the Klang Valley to be opened for tin mining, in the 1850’s. The name "Ampang" means "dam" in Malay and the place was named in reference to the miners' dams. Ampang and tin mining were instrumental in the early development of Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding areas.

Ampang belongs to two states, demarked clearly owing to the dissection by the Middle Ring Road II (MRR2) where the west portion belongs to Kuala Lumpur and the east belongs to Selangor.

The two demarked Ampangs are unique and each paint a different picture, both in terms of atmosphere and purpose. Ampang, Kuala Lumpur is a modern, vibrant commercial area with high-end, high-rise residential addresses. It’s also known as a diplomatic hub, having a number of high commissions and embassies. Ampang, Selangor is a housing hub with low-cost to high-cost housing.

Ampang, Selangor is the home to the National Zoo of Malaysia (Zoo Negara) and the Taman Rimba Ampang (Ampang Recreational Forest) -- a small recreational park offering a retreat from the busy city life with its quiet environment and the river's cool and clear waters. Istana Daerah Hulu Langat is a palace in Ampang, the official residence of the Yang-Amat Berbahagia Tengku Mahkota of Hulu Langat, a member of the Selangor royal family. The palace is not normally open to the public, although the beautiful gardens around it can be viewed from outside.

Amenities and Facilities

Ampang has three hospitals, namely Ampang Putri Hospital, Pantai Hospital Pandan Indah and Hospital Ampang. Ampang also has numerous shopping complexes including Ampang Point, MidPoint, Paragon, Pandan Kapital, Spectrum Mall Ampang, Galaxy Ampang, Ampang Tesco and Aeon Big Ampang. Along with being located close to the Kuala Lumpur city centre, Wangsa Maju, Setapak and Salak Selatan, all this makes Ampang an ideal location for residence.

Accessibility and Transportation

Ampang is easily accessible from E12 Highway, Jalan Tun Razak or Jalan Ulu Kelang from the Hulu Klang or Setapak areas. It is also accessible from Cheras through Jalan Shamelin, from Jalan Tun Razak through Jalan Kampung Pandan via Taman Cempaka, from Kampung Pandan through Jalan Kampung Pandan Dalam via Taman Nirwana, from MRR2 via Pandan Indah & Taman Kencana and from Hulu Langat town through the mountain pass.
