Overview

Located along the western coast of Peninsular Malaysia in the Klang District of Selangor, Kapar is a small town that beckons an unhurried lifestyle.

With a population tipping slightly over 20,000, Kapar is famed for the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Power Station, which is located on the outskirts of Kapar town and supplies power to a large part of Selangor. It was launched in 1987 and remains the largest power plant in Malaysia and the only power station in the country with gas, oil and coal firing capabilities.

Coursing through this coastal town is the Kapar River, which leads to the Straits of Malacca. A few places of interests in and around Kapar have become popular tourist attractions, particularly Pantai Remis and a bird sanctuary. Located near the power station, the Kapar bird sanctuary is known to house more than 60 species of migratory birds.

Kapar is surrounded by matured residential townships, including Bandar Setia Alam, Meru, Bukit Tinggi, Bandar Bukit Raja, Taman Botanic Klang and Port Klang. Although the growth and urbanisation of Kapar has been slow in the past, it has begun to experience a hike in commercial development in recent years. This bodes well for its residents as it brings with it more retail and commercial offerings to cater to the convenience of the Kapar population.

Amenities and Facilities

There are primary and secondary schools in Kapar, including SMK (P) Kapar and SMK Tengku Idris Shah Kapar, in addition to the Bayu College in the heart of Kapar town. The nearest main hospital is the Klang KPJ Klang Specialist Hospital (KLGSH), while nearby shopping malls are located in neighbouring townships such as Setia Alam and Klang. In the town centre, a line-up of convenience stores, supermarkets, banks and services are available.

Accessibility and Transportation

Kapar is accessible via the new North Klang Straits Bypass, Federal Highway and New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), connecting to surrounding townships as well as to various areas within the Klang Valley. Running along the western coastline of Klang is the Jalan Kapar main trunk road, which connects Kapar to Klang town and Port Klang.
