Seri Kembangan is located on the southern end of Kuala Lumpur, about 20 kilometres from the city centre and 40 kilometres from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. It is within the Petaling District of the state of Selangor and governed by the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ).
In 1952, the British Government relocated the Chinese Malaysian villages around the Sungai Besi area to Seri Kembangan, then called Serdang New Village, for containment against communist threats during the Emergency period. It has since grown from its roots of cottage industries and homes of rubber tappers and mining workers.
Amenities and Facillities
Seri Kembangan has now matured into a modern mainly Chinese township with many modern amenities. Giant, South City Plaza, Mines Shopping Centre and AEON are main retail hubs.
A notable landmark is the Mines Wellness City (formerly Mines Resort City), which is under the government’s Economic Transformation Plan, and to become the nation’s first integrated health and wellness city in the country.
Moreover, Seri Kembangan sits on the world's largest open cast tin mine and consists of the Palace of the Golden Horses Hotel, Mines Wellness Hotel, Golden Horses Health Sanctuary, The Mines Shopping Mall, MINES Waterfront Business Park, MINES Resort & Golf Club, Mines Convention Centre (MIECC), The Heritage Residences and Retail.
Accessibility and Transportation
Major highways such as the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), Maju Expressway (MEX), Kajang-SILK Highways, Besraya Highway and the KL-Seremban Highway connect Seri Kembangan to other areas of Greater Kuala Lumpur.
For public transport, it has RapidKL buses, KTM Serdang and LRT stations at Sungai Besi and Bandar Tasik Selatan.
Some key developments in the area are the Univ 360 Place - a leasehold mixed commercial development of designer suites and duplex shop lots, and Zeva, a mixed development in Bandar Putra Permai by the Trinity Goup.
New on-going projects include SK Once Residence and SK One Avenue under the Malton Group which has serviced apartments and shoplots due for completion in 2017.
A new landmark in the area is Wisma Huazong, the most impressive architectural feat outside of China constructed by the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia. It resembles the Great Hall of the People in Tiananmen Square. The construction is said to have received huge funding from Chinese tycoons and the federal government.
