Overview

Sungai Buloh, or literally bamboo river in the Malay language, is a sub-district of Petaling Jaya and borders Gombak and neighbour to Kota Damansara.

In the 1930’s, Sungai Buloh was the second largest leprosy settlement in the world. It was set up due to the Leper Enactment Act that came into force in 1926 which required the segregation of those infected with the disease and those who were not.

Eventually the community within the colony decided to build flower and plant nurseries to assist in bringing in an income and these nurseries eventually grew to become an attraction of Sungai Buloh.

Today, Sungai Buloh has many gated and guarded residential properties such as Sierramas, Valencia and Sunway Rahman Putra, which come with seven figure price tags.

Accessibility and Transportation

This area is very well connected in terms of major highways, such as the North Klang Valley Expressway, Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong, Middle Ring Road 2 and Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway. It also has its own KTM station that connects to the Rawang-Seremban line.

Two new MRT lines - Sungai Buloh to Kajang and Sungai Buloh to Serdang to Putrajaya - will further enhance it accessibility and new home owners once it is operational.

Amenities and Facilities

Its neighbour, Kota Damansara, has many modern amenities such as retail and entertainment facilities suitable for the young and mature. The Strand and Sunway Giza provide retail therapy.

There are also medical centres such as Sungai Buloh General Hospital, Tropicana Medical Centre and Alpha Medical Centre, and education centres - SEGI University College located in Kota Damansara.

Property Developments

Upcoming developments in the area include D’Sara Sentral by Mah Sing Group Bhd and SqWhere by Selangor Dredging Bhd, both are commercial lifestyle developments next to one another with its own direct and covered bridge to the nearby MRT station.

Ixora Residences by KL-Kepong in the Bandar Seri Coalfields is another notable new development of 2-storey houses in a lush green environment.
