Overview
Sungai Buloh, or literally bamboo river in the Malay language, is a sub-district of Petaling Jaya and borders Gombak and neighbour to Kota Damansara.
In the 1930’s, Sungai Buloh was the second largest leprosy settlement in the world. It was set up due to the Leper Enactment Act that came into force in 1926 which required the segregation of those infected with the disease and those who were not.
Eventually the community within the colony decided to build flower and plant nurseries to assist in bringing in an income and these nurseries eventually grew to become an attraction of Sungai Buloh.
Today, Sungai Buloh has many gated and guarded residential properties such as Sierramas, Valencia and Sunway Rahman Putra, which come with seven figure price tags.
