Utropolis Batu Kawan is Penang’s first university metropolis, an integrated development which will feature KDU Penang University College’s newest campus, along with residences, retail lots, office spaces and even a hotel, all spanning 44.3-acre of prime Batu Kawan land. Batu Kawan is slated to become the third satellite city of Penang, with the Utropolis Batu Kawan development to play a large role in its progress. The first phase of Utropolis Batu Kawan to be completed is the commercial component. Made up of 196 commercial shop office units, there will be 3 types to choose from. The commercial shop lots have just recently been launched, with prices beginning from RM326,600. Work on the other phases of Utropolis Batu Kawan are currently ongoing, with the KDU Penang University College campus expecting completion in 2019. Residential phases which are expected to be launched in the near future are 612 studio units, which will aim to accommodate the students, staff, and lecturers of the university college in the future as well as the working population in the area. Utropolis Batu Kawan strives to become a self-sustainable township, it is within walking distance to Malaysia’s largest premium outlet mall, The Design Village, which opened in 2016. There will also be a hospital, Columbia Asia Hospital, which will be the first hospital to operate in Batu Kawan. Other developments nearby include the Batu Kawan Industrial Park, the Penang International Technology Park and One Auto Hub while there are plans for a theme park and golf course as well. Utropolis Batu Kawan is strategically situated within close proximity to the North-South Expressway (NSE) and the second Penang bridge. Both are located just 1km away from the development, thus enabling unparalleled accessibility to and from Utropolis Batu Kawan, connecting the integrated township to other parts of Penang, the island and even peninsula Malaysia. Upon entering the island via the second Penang bridge, the Penang International Airport is also just a short distance away, which will be a huge convenience for businesses and corporations operating in Batu Kawan.
