KUALA LUMPUR: The Master Builders Association Malaysia is expected to benefit the most from the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) financial allocations in the next five years. The construction industry hopes the government will ensure speedy award of contracts and efficient implementation of high-impact projects such as Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), highways, 1Malaysia development and rural development projects, said deputy president Kwan Foh Kwai.
He said the 10MP is expected to support the construction industry through a facilitation fund that would further boost the construction industry.
The government proposed to invest about RM2.7 billion under the 10MP to build roads and rail leading to key ports and airports while logistics management will be improved to raise cargo transportation efficiency.
"MBAM is also appreciative of the government's focus on the development of the five growth corridors which will be expedited with emphasis on infrastructures and public amenities," he said in a statement on June 10.
The association also urged the government to ensure there were sufficient skilled construction workers, both foreign and local, before considering any changes in the present levy structure.
"We also support the government’s initiative to reshape the economy by focusing on human capital development, vocational training and improving lifelong education and ongoing self-development programmes that will help re-skill the labour force in the country," he said. -Bernama
