Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad

PUTRAJAYA (Aug 10): Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pictured) is willing to meet representatives from the Orang Asli community in Gua Musang, Kelantan, to listen to their problems on the alleged encroachment into their customary land by several companies.

This was conveyed by the Prime Minister’s political secretary Abu Bakar Yahya after receiving a memorandum from the chairman of the Pos Simpor Jaringan Kampung Wilayah Tanah Adat, Nur Mohd Shafiq Dendi Abdullah.

Abu Bakar said a meeting had been arranged at 3.30 pm today for the Orang Asli representatives to meet the prime minister.

"The prime minister wants to listen and get detailed information on the issue facing the Temiar Orang Asli that they have put up blockades to prevent the companies from entering the area,” he said.

The Orang Asli community from 17 villages had set up blockades since last February to guard their land against encroachment. —
