Heavy rain causes landslides in Cameron Highlands

CAMERON HIGHLANDS (May 25): Heavy rain last night caused two landslides at Ringlet here early this morning, but no injury or loss of life was reported.

Cameron Highlands OCPD Deputy Supt Ashari Abu Samah said the first incident occurred near a farm at Jalan Ulu Merah, Ringlet, at 6am today, affecting a total area of about at 15m in height and 10m in length.

"In addition to heavy rain, a pipe in the farm area also burst, causing the landslide," he said when contacted here, today.

Following that, the route is closed to all vehicles while the Public Works Department is actively clearing the roads, he added.

Ashari said the second incident took place at Jalan Ringlet-Blue Valley near the Kuari Batu Syarikat Perniagaan Nazri Ahmad at about 9.30am.

He said that as of 1 pm today, only one lane at Jalan Ringlet-Blue Valley was opened for vehicles and cleaning works were still underway.
