Lulu opens second hypermarket in Malaysia


KUALA LUMPUR (July 2): Lulu Group, one of the largest retail operators in the Middle East, has opened its second hypermarket here, with the opening of another four planned by 2020.

The new outlet was opened by Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail yesterday.

The more than 7,400 sq m hypermarket, located at 1 Shamelin Shopping Mall in Cheras, is also Lulu’s 174th branch globally.

Lulu Group chairman Yusuff Ali said the opening of the new branch was part of the company's expansion plans in Malaysia and was committed to opening four new hypermarket in different parts of the country before the end of 2020.

“They include projects in Setia City Mall, Bangi Gateway, Bachang in Melaka and Johor Bahru,” he said.

The Abu Dhabi-based company expected to create more than 5,000 job opportunities to the Malaysian work force. Lulu Malaysia currently employs more than 300 people at its two hypermarkets in the country. 

Lulu's first store in Malaysia, located in CapSquare, in Jalan Munshi Abdullah, here, was opened in 2016.
