MP Rozman to boost Labuan's economic development

LABUAN (July 4): Labuan MP Datuk Rozman Isli is to meet the relevant ministries to explain the importance of the economic development of the duty-free island.

He said this is a follow-up to the meeting he had with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad last week on the island’s economic progress.

At these meetings, the important role of the Labuan Development Foundation (YPL) in the economic development of the island will be explained, he told Bernama today.

Rozman met with Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad on Tuesday. A day earlier, he met with the Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Bakar.

The MP said Khalid had expressed the hope that YPL can play a greater role in assisting the Federal Government and Labuan Corporation in the area of socio-economic development on the island.

Rozman said YPL will be able to establish a smart partnership with the Federal Territories Foundation.

“We hope the foundations will help realise the proposed bridge linking Labuan to mainland Sabah for economic spinoffs in the two territories,” he said.

Rozman said he would not stop driving the island’s economy to be on par with the states, with the assistance of the Federal Government and the relevant ministries.
