171 schools in Kedah damaged by Friday's storm

ALOR SETAR (Aug 12):  A total of 171 schools in several districts in Kedah were reported to have been damaged by last Friday’s storm, said state Education and Human Resource Committee chairman Dr Salmee Said.

She said based on reports received as at 10 pm today, the affected schools are in Langkawi, Pendang, Sik, Baling, Kota Setar, Kubang Pasu, Kuala Muda, Yan, Padang Terap and Kulim-Bandar Baharu.

"The damage, which included broken roofs and ceilings, will be repaired immediately but (some) will take one month to complete,” he said in a brief statement to Bernama last night.

Dr Salmee said the schooling session would not be badly affected as schools are having their Hari Raya Aidiladha break until Aug 17.
