Pahang Islamic Religious Department wants bride, bridegroom and entourage from other states to present Covid-19 RTK results

KUANTAN (Nov 13): Individuals from outside Pahang who are getting married, as well as their entourages, need to present the result of COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test Kid (RTK-Ag), conducted 72 hours before a solemnisation ceremony in the state.

Pahang Islamic Religious Department (JAIP) director Datuk Dr Zulkifle Ali said the test could be done at any public or private health facilities recognised by the Ministry of Health including in the states of origin of the individuals and they must bear the costs.

“Non-compliance in the aspect of time, type and result of the RTK, could cause the solemnisation ceremony to be postponed under the authority of the district kadi (marriage registrar),” he said in a statement here today.

Zulkifle said the test results must be presented to the district Islamic religious office together with the cross-state travel permits before the wedding was allowed to proceed.

The requirement, he said, was decided based on the current situation of COVID-19, in which most states are under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), to prevent the spread of the virus in Pahang.

Apart from that, Zulkifle said solemnisation ceremonies could only be conducted at district Islamic religious offices or at locations deemed suitable by the district kadi, within a maximum of 20 minutes for a solemnisation.

“Customary rituals are not permitted at all and only eight people are allowed including marriage registrar, two witnesses, bridegroom, bride and bride’s guardian,” he said.

Zulkifle said the marriage registrar would determine the time slots for solemnisations after consulting with the persons getting married.

He said those present must comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP), which include the wearing of face mask, temperature screening, attendance registration, using of sanitiser and physical distancing.

“We hope all parties would adhere to the set conditions. If the guidelines are not complied to, the kadi or his representative can postpone the solemnisation ceremony,” he said.
