KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 9): Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has immediately shut down a hotel in Jalan Pudu for carrying out immoral activities on the premises, thus breaching the conditions of its licence.

The DBKL said in a statement yesterday that a special operation was conducted by its enforcement unit at noon today based on public complaints and its own intelligence.

The operation was conducted under Sections 29 and 18 of the Hotels (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (WPKL)) Act 2003 in accordance with the DBKL’s jurisdiction and standard operating procedure.

“Statements were recorded from three Thai women suspected to be sex workers, one Bangladeshi customer and a local caretaker of the premises,” it said, adding that the DBKL also seized various items, including condoms and lubricants, from the premises.

In a separate statement, the DBKL said that a supermarket selling meat, fish and vegetables in Jalan Hang Lekiu here was also ordered to close down after an inspection found the premises to be unhygienic and dirty.

It issued the closure notice under by-law 28 (1) of the Food Placement Licensing WPKL 2016, effective tomorrow, it said.

The statement said that as a whole, the premises failed to meet all the stipulated health requirements to run a business of preparing and processing food items, adding that even the workers were not given typhoid jabs.
