MBAM urges members to participate in Selgate vaccination programme

PETALING JAYA (May 19): The supplementary vaccination programme by the state government will be able to speed up the recovery pace of the local construction industry, said Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) president Tan Sri Sufri Hj Mhd Zin (pictured).

“It has been a hard struggle for the industry and our members. With this programme, at least we could see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. It may not be the end of our fight with the pandemic but at least there is some hope that we would be able to revive faster for the greater good of the Malaysian construction industry,” Sufri told EdgeProp.my.

Suffri commented that the initiative is definitely a good and timely response by the state government as he noted that the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) is still lacking behind.

“As per Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV) data on May 17, over 2.6 million of registrations are recorded for the vaccination in Selangor but only about 6% have received their first and second doses of vaccination,” he explained.

However, he noted that certain efforts by the government such as allowing the private health sectors to become vaccine administration centres (PPV) is commendable as it will definitely ramp up the vaccination process.

“Hopefully, we will be able to see better results soon in order to achieve herd immunity,” he added.

With the announcement of the Selgate Programme just a few days ago, more than 3,500 companies and around one million employees have expressed their interest to participate, said Selangor state executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud in a Facebook Live media briefing today.

“We (the Association) are urging our members within the Klang Valley region especially companies in Selangor state to register their workforce into the programme soonest,” Sufri said.

The Selgate Programme was initiated by the Selangor government to complement the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme. The state government wants to help speed up the vaccination process especially in Selangor, where daily Covid-19 cases have surged in recent days.

Malaysia’s daily positive cases jumped to an all-time high at 6,075 cases today, with Selangor continuing to record the highest number of cases at 2,251. Out of the 46 deaths in the country owing to Covid-19, 19 were reported in Selangor.
