600 tenants owe council RM4m in rental

ALOR SETAR (Mar 21): The Alor Setar City Council is tracing about 600 business premises tenants who owe RM4 million in rental from the 1990s to March last year.

The Council's Property Valuation and Management Department, property management division chief Zamzama Mohd said the arrears covered 1,233 lots.

"They owe between three months and 20 years in rent, and notices have been issued to them giving them seven days to settle, but they've not done so," he explained.

"We have also blacklisted them so they cannot apply to rent again," he told reporters when he was met during an operation to seal several premises at Medan Raja here on Wednesday.

He said the Council sealed eight business premises which owed from nine to 19 months in arrears amounting to a total of RM30,000 in the Medan Raja operation on Wednesday. — Bernama
