KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 9): Berjaya Jeju Airest City bagged the Gold Award for Best Futura Mega Project at the Mipim Awards 2012 held in Hong Kong, its developer Berjaya Jeju Resort Ltd announced today (Friday).

"The Gold Awards recognition by MIPIM Asia Awards proves our dedication in developing a true landmark," said executive director Mah Siew Wan. "Our project is a unique integrated resort, which is specially planned with in-depth attention based on intensive studies on various fields, in aiming to create an unprecedented one-of-a-kind resort, which will set a new standard to resort development."

Previously, this project was a finalist at Mipim World 2012 in France, and won the 5 Star Awards for Best Mixed-use Development at the International Property Awards 2012.

"This project is the largest single foreign investment in South Korea's tourism industry aiming to turn Jeju into a free international city in Northern Asia. More than a conventional resort, it is a self-sustaining enclave that integrates vibrant living and new business platforms. We expect that such a new approach will satisfy developer, investors and visitors, as well as local residents," said project director Tang Vui Woon.

This month, Berjaya Jeju Resort Ltd had opened its promotion centre in an art gallery at Gangnam, Seoul, showcasing the first phase of the project named Gotjawal Village, which features 96 luxury residential units and 51 shophouses with a gross development value (GDV) of US$250 million.

Jeju Airest City is a 183.3-acre self-sustaining integrated high-end resort development with an estimated gross development value (GDV) of US$3.2 billion.

Envisioned as a "creative business leisure city", other major components include a five-star hotel, a medical centre, casino, shopping mall and entertainment outlets.
