Construction worker crushed to death by falling concrete slab

GEORGE TOWN (Jan 17): An Indonesian construction worker was crushed to death when a concrete wall suddenly collapsed at a new housing project in Bayan Lepas, here on Tuesday.

During the 12.30pm incident, the victim — known only as Maksum, 37 — from Java, Indonesia died at the spot while a fellow worker Dany Setiawan, 24, also from Java, suffered serious injuries and later sent to the Balik Pulau Hospital.

According to a witness, the Fire and Rescue Department took about an hour to extricate the body from the rubble.

Barat Daya Police Chief Supt Hatta Mohd Zain when contacted confirmed the incident while police have classified the case as sudden death. — Bernama
