WUHAN: Construction on what will be the world's third tallest building started Wednesday, Dec 8 in central China's Wuhan City, capital of Hubei Province, a spokesman for the developer said Thursday.

The skyscraper will be 606 metres tall when construction finishes in five years.

The developer Shanghai Greenland Group has invested about 30 billion yuan (RM14.14 billion) in the project.

The building, named the Wuhan Greenland Centre, will have luxury hotels, apartments and a conference centre inside.

The world's tallest building is the 828m high Dubai Tower in the United Arab Emirates.

The 632m high Shanghai Tower will be the world's second tallest building when construction on it finishes in 2014. — Bernama
