PETALING JAYA: KUB Malaysia Bhd has won a RM268.8 million contract from Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) to develop parts of the new low-cost air terminal or the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA 2) in Sepang.

In a statement on Tuesday, KUB said its subsidiary KUB Builders Sdn Bhd had accepted the contract. It will be responsible for the construction of a new 3.96km third runway, parallel taxiways, connecting taxiways and other associated works, which will take 16 months to complete.

"We won the contract after a tight contest from several competitors. Though it is a challenge for us, our goal is to complete the whole project within its timeline and at the same time to get the job done well in all aspects," said KUB group managing director Datuk Mohd Nazar Samad.

Nazar said KUB is delighted to be a part of making Kuala Lumpur an aviation hub as it will be the biggest low-cost hub in the region.

"We fully support the government's agenda on boosting Malaysia's tourism sector which will significantly contribute to the country's economy," Nazar said.

KUB said this project will further consolidate its business in the property, engineering and construction sectors.

It will also strengthen its market presence and will continue to diversify its portfolio as well as seek similar projects in the future, KUB added.

KUB Builders is a Class A Industrialised Building System and a bumiputra contractor with its own in-house precast component manufacturing facilities for buildings and infrastructure.
