KUALA LUMPUR: Green building and design exhibition ECO-B returns for the second time this year at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre with more exhibitors and other activities.

Organised by the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM), the Malaysian Green Building Confederation and Green Building Index, the Second Malaysia Eco Building and Design Exhibition (ECO-B 2013) to be held from March 26 to 28 will feature 130 exhibitors and 540 booths in a gross exhibit area of around 5,400 sq m with an expected 15,000 visitors.

There will also be a forum, trade talks, workshops and awards highlighting the latest eco products.

The ECO-B forum on March 27 will feature four speakers from around the region — Bali’s Green School co-founder Elora Hardy and award-winning architects Vo Trong Nghia of Vietnam, BC Ang (Malaysia) and Yip Yuen Hong (Singapore).

“We are expecting up to 450 participants for the forum and numbers are quickly approaching the target. This is a rare opportunity to hear and see firsthand the work of a new generation of green innovators who are working within the culture and confines of their localities and making an international impact,” said forum convener Dr Tan Loke Mun.

Tan: Small steps can lead to
international discoveries.

“I am hoping that participants will be able to catch a bit of the fire and passion of these young innovators and start to do similar things within their own worlds. Small steps can lead to international discoveries. It only takes a spark,” added the architect, who is director of Archicentre Sdn Bhd and adjunct professor at Universiti Putra Malaysia.

The workshops will cover three topics — energy efficiency, natural resources and environment, and indoor environmental quality.

The trade talks will involve selected exhibitors discussing trends in design, technology and products. The awards will showcase winning products based on design and innovation, technology and standards, as well as restoration and re-use of materials.
